Magic Snails

I'll tell you a tale of some magic snails
Who left behind some slimy trails.

They lived inside a magic pail,
But to them it seemed like a silver jail.

So they cast a spell to no avail.
Their magic was a major fail.

And so they're stuck inside the pail,
Until that pail is put on sale.

Open and Shut Case

The detective was beyond caring
About finding another red herring.
He created a timeline for the case,
And gave the criminal a chase.
He caught him behind the third door.
When the suspect knocked him to the floor.
The suspect left behind prints.
A jury could then be convinced.

My New Pet

The advertisement said,
"Adopt a polar bear."
I filled the tub with ice.
I bought up lots of fish.
I missed the fine, fine print;
"Symbolically" it said.

A Simply Fabulous Invention

Whoever invented
Self-serve frozen yogurt
Is simply delightful
Take as much or little
As you want in your cup
Just pay for what you eat.

Flocked!

I woke up this morning
Without any warning
Flamingos all over my lawn.
I suspected a joke
From some friendly folk
The next morning the flamingos were gone.

A Very Cheesy Escape

The thief was caught
In jail to rot
And so did plot.

His friend was pleased
He hid the keys
In a block of cheese.

Ode to Peter Rabbit

Young Peter Rabbit
Had a bad habit.

He saw the merits
Of the farmer's carrots.

He went under the fence
Not using his sense.

He lost his jacket
Creating a racket.

Peter was full of dread.
His mother put him to bed.

Flamingo

There once was a flamingo
That liked to play bingo.
He won every game.
The prize he would claim
A fortunate bird
Went around town chauffeured.

Cerberus in a First Grade Reader

See Spot Run
Run, Jack, run.
Run, Jill, run.

(I recently discovered that the word Cerberus means "spotted".  Dick and Jane would never be the same.)

Welcome Back Rain

I don't mind the rain.
My garden needs the water.
The plants are happy.
