Ode to a Bad Chicken Stew

The gravy would not thicken
It did not taste like chicken
Or carrots or potatoes
Or celery or tomatoes.

The chef still had the nerve.
This stew he still would serve.
The food would people sicken.
The host was panic-stricken.

He called for pizza pie
And now the guests won't die.

Who Ate My Chips?

Someone left a bowl of corn chips on the table and the cat ate them.

Around the Bonfire

I'll tell you all what did transpire:
Sam called Sue, "I must inquire
Would you like to join the community choir
Singing around the big bonfire?"

Sue said to Sam, "My one desire
Is to sing around a big bonfire.
I must tell you that I require
All the marshmallows you can acquire."

So Sam and Sue joined the community choir
And made s'mores around the big bonfire
Until so warm they did perspire.
Then the hour grew late so they did retire.

Cycle

Walking through the autumn trees I wonder
Why are leaves most colorful
Moments before they die?

Cheap Eats

You're selling that pickle
For only a nickel?
I'm feeling quite cynical.

Raking the Leaves

Some people rake
The leaves every day
Making sure their lawn stays clean.

Some people wait until
All the leaves are down
They do the job once.

Some people leave
The leaves on the ground
Letting them decompose into the soil.

Which one is right?

Grooming

I created the foam
And got out my comb
So much ado
Over brand new shampoo

Unusual Bird

On my walk I heard
An unusual bird.
Its nest I had stirred.

A Sign of Fall

Dear spider, oh why
Must you build your web each day
On the path I walk?

Game Point
Lobbed over net
I am the leading player
My opponent can't return this
I scored the winning point.

I can't believe it!
You are a legal adult
It happened so fast
Eighteen years ago today

September Learns

New rules and routines
New faces and names
A year older
A grade higher
A bit smarter
A new school year ready to begin.
