Squirrels

Squirrels
Big brown rodents
Digging and hiding their food
Forgetting where they put it all
Absent-minded creatures

Raking

Raking
Endless leaf pile
Covering up the yard
I'm wishing they would all fall down
At once

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Up
And
Away
Crossing the
Pacific Ocean
The first in a hot air balloon

(November 12, 1981, the Double Eagle V was the first hot air balloon to cross the Pacific Ocean.)

Today We Remember

Today we remember
That veterans did not act
Out of their own wills,
But out of obedience
To others orders

Today we remember
That they support our Constitution
They set aside personal goals
To protect us from our enemies.

Today we remember their sacrifices
And honor them for their unselfishness.

A Cat's Enlistment Oath

I solemnly promise

To defend my food bowl

From every enemy

Foreign and domestic

I will obey no one

While I rule this house.

(Note: I was preparing a Veterans Day poem to post tomorrow, and I remembered the oath I took when I enlisted in the Army Reserves.  I compared the unselfishness of veterans with the selfishness of my cat.  I hope no one is offended.)

Gadget

I don't even know

What this gadget does, but I

know I must have one.

Tell Me a Story

Tell me a story

Of kings and queens in castles.

Show me the pictures.

I want to see what happens.

I want to have adventures.
